T3 Mezzanine Card Enables High Performance, Low Power and Fabric Convergence on SIGMABLADE Server Blades

SUNNYVALE, CA – Aug 07, 2008 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., a leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced that its T3-based 10GbE Unified Wire adapters have been selected by NEC Corporation as the high-speed interconnect for its SIGMABLADE Server Blades, enabling server networking, storage networking and clustering on the single platform, which is targeted at medium- and large-sized enterprise environments.

Integrating Chelsio’s 10GbE technologies into the NEC SIGMABLADE server product line enables fabric convergence while delivering best-in-class performance and low power, ensuring our customers can effectively run their various business IT applications with a reasonable investment in IT infrastructure, said Kimihiko Fukuda, general manager of Client and Server Division, NEC.

Chelsio’s T3-based server adapters enable an NEC Server Blade to concurrently address the clustering, storage, and networking markets without any special requirements for a new switch infrastructure, or a new gateway, or specialized IT personnel, said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio.  This flexibility, when combined with the CPU power and utility savings that are enabled by state-full offload technology, enables the data centers to acquire substantially more compute power for the same investment. NEC is utilizing Chelsio’s S320EM-SB-C mezzanine card, a dual-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapter with PCI Express interface.  It has the capabilities to offload TCP/IP, classification, virtualization and traffic management processing from the host systems, freeing up host CPU cycles for other applications.
