IBM qualifies Chelsio adapters for System X cluster 1350 and iDataPlex servers.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chelsio 10GbE adapters qualified for IBM System X cluster 1350 and iDataPlex servers

SUNNYVALE, CA – Oct 28, 2008 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., the leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced that its 10Gb Ethernet Unified Wire adapters have been qualified for use with IBM System x Cluster 1350 servers, targeted at high-performance computing (HPC) environments, and IBM System x iDataPlex servers, designed for the massive scale out data centers for HPC, Web 2.0 and commercial computing applications.

Chelsio’s Unified Wire can concurrently support our HPC clustering, iSCSI storage, and high performance networking applications, said Sergio Amoni, director of worldwide marketing for IBM System x. Chelsio’s adapters enable our servers to take immediate advantage of fabric convergence on the existing 10GbE Ethernet switches.

The IBM System x Cluster 1350 is an HPC clustering solution that incorporates server technology from IBM and networking technology from leading vendors.  Designed for extreme supercomputing environments, the IBM System Cluster x 1350 offers significant price/performance advantages for many high-performance workloads by harnessing the advantages of x86 servers and the ubiquitous, innovative open source software that is readily available.

Chelsio’s low-profile Unified Wire adapters are the highest performance 10GbE interconnects for storage, server and cluster networking. The adapters for use with the IBM System x Cluster 1350 and the System x iDataPlex include the S310e-SR+ optical and S310e-CXA CX4 copper adapters, and the S320em-BCH, a dual-port mezzanine card designed for the IBM BladeCenter H platform.

The IBM System x iDataPlex is a new design in server technology that delivers  a significant increase in the number of systems that can run in a single rack to deliver more than 5X the amount of computing that can be done while using 40 percent less power and can eliminate the need for air conditioning in the data center.  Built for stateless computing, iDataPlex takes a page from the Internet model and effectively turns many separate computers into a seamless pool of shared resources or cloud.

Collaborating with IBM has enabled Chelsio to deliver 10Gb Ethernet interconnects for these innovative 1350 and iDataPlex systems that meet the high performance computing requirements of the enterprise data center while delivering the lowest total cost of ownership, said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio.  “Our Unified Wire adapters are enabling fabric convergence and deliver the high performance, the low-power consumption and the high-throughput requirements of the leading HPC and data center environments.
